The Only Movie I've Ever Turned Off
Seriously...I love movies and all my friends call me when they have any questions, or if they just want to test my knowledge. Not exactly a crowning achievement, but whatever. I have seen many, many movies - a lot of which were, yes, terrible, but I just couldn't take this film another minute longer. I tried watching this movie and shut it off half way through, I just couldn't stand it.
Ben Stiller is only funny 10% of the time - i.e.: Dodgeball (which was a character he reused from a lesser-known film he was in called "Heavyweights"). Other than that, his idea that awkward and uncomfortable = funny is mostly just a formula that leads to a boring and bad movie.
Compound his formula with deciding Drew Barrymore was a good addition and BAM - just a terrible movie. I don't understand how people can cringe through his movies. Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers were only mildly funny - thanks to his co-stars. But think about his movies - There's Something About Mary, Meeth Parents/Fockers, Along Came Polly, etc...He thrives on uncomfortable and awkward and it just becomes repetitive, boring, and unfunny.
That being said, I know people are going to be pissed about this and do the whole "Then why comment?!" response...so, if you're going to respond, at least use constructive criticism/arguments. I wrote this to be an open discussion on agreeing/disagreeing with my take on the film/his films.
Thanks.
