Why??? (**SPOILERS***)

I really wanted to like this movie, and I did to some extent. I thought the acting and the actions scenes were top notch, for one thing. The gun fights were awesome, and seemed very realistic. However, for a movie that seemed realistic and believeable in some senses, I couldn't ignore the gaping plot holes left in the movie. Here are some of them that I noticed:

1. Why when Vin Diesel be kept on a case that he's clearly so emotionally attached to? This would NEVER happen in really life, for exactly the reason it shouldn't have happened in the movie.

2. Who in the hell is Big Sexy and why is he allowed to possess military quality weapons, with the full knowledge of the police? He seemed good, but don't tell me there was a legitimate reason for the cops to let him operate

3. Why would Memo destroy his own family from jail? If he had really wanted them gone, why wouldn't he have killed them while he was free? Likewise, why (besides to throw off the viewers) would he call his lieutenant and blame him for not protecting his family?

4. Why would Memo help Vin Diesel get revenge? Wouldn't have been safer just to kill Vin Diesel once and for all? If he were simply using Diesel's character, how could he bank on him succeeding? How would he know Diesel could get him a transfer, for sure? There are just so many variables, there's no way Memo could have plotted anything ahead of time.

5. At the end, how did Vin Diesel know where Memo would be? Why didn't Memo just shoot him dead on the spot? How did Vin Diesel manage to surround Memo with police, all completely without his knowledge?

The list just goes on and on. It was one of the most irrational plotlines I have ever seen.

Don't know if I can answer the first one... But I THINK I know the answers to the rest (cept the last)

2. I think he was just a street dealer who had hook up to big time arms dealers.. How Vin's character and friends said they were "Connections with the streets" and all that.
3+4. I could be looking to deep into this, but I figured Memo wanted to vanish from his current post, including his most trusted men, and set himself up as the new mystery man "Diablo" under a new, fresh organization. He figures anyone tapping the lines to listen to his conversation would hear his outrage at the deaths. And then, helping Vin get his revenge therefor eliminates any former traces of Memo, therefor solidifying 'Diablo'.. bad luck that Vin's character caught wind of the break out.

As for the other two... Yeah, bad writing. Probably either figured Wrap it Up, or Write a Sequel...... eehhhhhh WRAP IT UP. Memo dies. How he knew the location? Not important. *laughs*
Thats the way it usually goes.

To actually give you an answer on the first question of yours... you are pretty much correct in assuming that Vin Diesel would not have EVER been kept on that case in real life due to the emotional attachment. But if you were in his position, would you be willing to give up the fight? (I think that is why the writers wrote the plot as they did... more emotional/dramatic action.)
