'Hard Times for Haggis?' (Spoiler warning here)

It might be just me, but I noticed an eerie resemblance of this movie (which I really like) to a classic "Ren and Stimpy" episode from 1993-1994 entitled "Hard Times for Haggis."

They both have similar plots, except that Haggis McHaggis (voiced by Alan Young) had his show canceled for no reason at all, while Rainbow Randolph had his show canceled due to that scandal. Haggis vows revenge on Ren and Stimpy for stealing his timeslot in a similar way how Randolph vows revenge on Sheldon/Smoochy. They even both attempt suicide; Randolph nearly burns himself with gasoline, and Haggis nearly jumps off a bridge. But the endings are totally different.

SPOILER WARNING!

Smoochy and Randolph become friends at the end, while Haggis, Ren and Stimpy all wind up without jobs.

Just thought I'd bring this up.
