I Heart Smoochy
I became a huge fan of Edward Norton's last year upon seeing him in The Painted Veil. I'd seen him before in Fight Club, Keeping the Faith, and Italian Job, but Painted Veil really gave me an all new appreciation for him. I wish I'd discovered this love and admiration earlier so I could have seen these films on the big screen, but that's besides the point.
Recently I've gone on a rampage getting a hold of and watching every film starring Norton. None of my friends owned or had seen Death to Smoochy, so I was pretty wary of buying it myself. I put my trust in Norton and went ahead and bought it, and I'm glad I did. Edward Norton is absolutely adorable in this film. I'm so used to seeing him play twisted characters, it was refreshing to see him play a character who was so sweet and pure. It's incredible the wide range of roles he can get into. It seems no matter what, he can make the most out of any role he's given.
It's really too bad this film didn't get better reviews. It certainly is different from what we all are used to, but why does different have to be such a bad thing? People should open their minds more to new material. I'm not going to say it's the greatest comedy of the century, but it's at least worth watching. And for me, as an Edward Norton fan, worth owning. His eyes and his smile completely light up the screen. Pardon my infatuation, but I can't get over how much more I love him for the type of role he played in this film.
Now excuse me, I'm going to go make myself a Smoochy plushie. =3
