Love This Thing

This is a 10. It's probably the only 10 I've ever given here... if only to balance some of the crap karma unfairly spewed against it.

Just for reference, other '10's' for me might be Godfather, Wizard Of Oz or Citizen Kane.

But this is such an amazing cast, script, direction, sets.

I can only explain it's low rating by saying that it's from another era. The era of 'banter'. My theory is that if you try to make a classic film like Capra used to do -today-, people simply will not respond. Either they won't get it or they'll beat you up for trying to be 'cute'.

The closest I have seen to this in style/tone was The Hudsucker Proxy... another modern 'banter' movie... which gets a pass from a lot of people because it's set in the 30's. I think it's easier to get into the 'banter' thing in a period picture. It's harder for some people to accept it in 'today'.

But I have never laughed as loudly at any movie. The banter is great, the jokes are dark and it looks -great-. In short, it's an adult movie.

And as fascist as this sounds, I wish there was a way to block people from voting on movies that are simply too far outside their 'zone'. IOW: I would -never- vote on a Tyler Perry or 'Western' or rom-com movie. I don't -get- a lot of genres so it's inappropriate for me to vote on them because they just don't appeal to me.

In short: those who get this will love it.
