I love Danny Devito as a director- Hoffa, and Death to Smoochy are some of may favorite movies.
I don't blame the director- I just think the film is an acquired taste. It's not the kind of movie mainstream audiences are going to like- they are more into unfunny *beep* like Wedding Crashers. As for this being marketed as a "kids movie" that is hogwash everyone knew that this was a black comedy. But people just didn't get it and it stems now as one of the most unappreciated films of all time.
