The first time I seen it I thought it was horrible. I don't remeber why, but I decided to watch it again and loved it. I especially love the little quirks Rainbow Randolph has. Like the way he breaks down near the end of the movie when he goes to Sheldon's pent house.
Anyways I was wondering if there are others movies that people hated the 1st time they saw it and loved it the 2nd time?
I'm in agreement here. I watched Death To Smoochy at a friends house some time back, I think around 2003-ish... I honestly didn't care all that much for it. I didn't remember anything about the movie at all, and had forgotten it even existed until very recently. I can't remember exactly what it was I didn't like before, but I can only assume that I was having a bad day. Watching it again a couple of nights ago, I was reduced to howls of laughter at some points - and I still can't stop giggling like a schoolgirl at the thought of the 'My Step-dad's not mean, he's just adjusting' song! Robin Williams is in his element in this movie too, and it's one of the few films he's impressed me in lately (the other being 'Worlds Greatest Dad'). I really like him when he lets his vicious and vindictive side shine through in these dark comedies, and hope to see more performances like this in future.
Definitely one I'd recommend without a moments hesitation.

I felt the same way about "Death To Smoochy". Hated it the first time but later found the DVD for cheaper that a movie rental. So, what the heck, I bought it. Now I love it!
Another movie where I had the same reaction......"The Big Lebowski". Now I love it!
not so keen on it the first time (i was preoccupied) all i heard was noise, missed all the gags. loved it the second time, pleasantly surprised, very funny especially robin williams.
First time I watched Napoleon Dynamite I thought it was boring and pointless. Then I saw it again and just love it. Cant really explain why I love it, but I do.
Just to give an update here... I recently watched Death To Smoochy for the 3rd time, after spending 15 minutes trying to convince my friend that it really was, and would be funny!
After an embarrasingly long 50 minutes... we turned it off.
I'm not sure what it is about this movie, but it's definitly got a hot/cold thing going on. I can't explain why I found it so funny on the second viewing, yet couldn't even muster a chuckle this time around... either way, I retract my "recommendation without a moments hesitation", and instead advise watching this in a mood where you're likely to laugh at practically anything... at least that way you've a better chance of finding positive points in what is potentially an enjoyable movie.

Some movies can depend on your mood and the other person in the room can affect your viewing experence. Especially in your case when you recommend a movie and your waiting to see there reaction to validate your claim, that the movie was good.
honestly i have no idea how a film like this can be so polarizing. i certainly can see a type of person who just hates the dark comedy of it but i cant see how it can be a drastic change from one viewing to another.
i suppose if you watch it with someone who has no interest in dark comedies like this then its likely to effect your enjoyment as well. half the fun is laughing your ass off again when you see the other person enjoying the jokes for the first time.
if you have any love at all for this type of comedy this film should shoot to the top of your favorites list. its a one note film cause the comedy is all of the same variety but its top notch straight through beginning to end with that style.
this is similar to the cable guy. it really should be a love it or hate it thing but it shouldn't fluctuate.
