Penis cookie in front of child actors.

I generally like the heck out of this movie, but took offense at the scene where Robin William's character (Rainbow Randolph) went on at length about the cookie not being a rocket, but was supposed to represent a man's genitals. They filmed that scene with many impressionable, young children as extras in it. To me, this showed as much of a lack of common sense as the Van Halen music video, "Hot for Teacher", where a scantily dressed young woman was dancing provocatively in front of young children. To me, that kind of thing is over the line. I know that others will disagree, but I was raised in a time when such things simply were not done. I child's innocence was something to be respected and the lack thereof was something they were left to develop on their own instead of having some irresponsible adult take it away from them.

That's why it is funny. Besides, how will that affect a child? Girl's don't know what it is, for all they know, it really could be a rocket. As for the boys they have them, but still probably couldn't tell they were dicks. It's not like Edward Norton deep throated the cookie, or put it into a vagina cup cake. And as for 'Hot For Teacher', do you think the children have never been to a beach? Aaaand, that's what Rock N' Roll is all about.

I just re-watched the scene and it looks like there are a lot of shots where the kids aren't even there. All of his swear words are spoken when there are no children on screen. The only time you do see kids is when he's saying the cookie is a "penis" and a "weenie". Although it may be in slightly bad taste, I don't think there's anything wrong with having kids there for those lines. It's not like those are words the kids don't say all the time anyway. Kids are always joking about penises at that age. Why not? Penises are hilarious.

broiler is right- the kids are not even in the scene. From the front shots- they are just looking at the camera, the back shots only show the kids heads- most of which are probaly adults/teens standing in as kids- they have their hair in ponytails.

Even if they are some young kids in the shot- it's not like he's holding a dildo or anything.

I personally raised my kids to talk openly about sex or their private parts at home openly. When my son started talking and identify his body parts, I would have him point to his arm and say "arm", etc.. I had him point to his penis and say "penis", etc. I taught him it was "private", but made sure he could talk openly about it to me, like asking questions, etc.. Of course little boys tend to have one hand down their pants 1/2 the time anyway when they are babies. As he got older I taught him that it was OK to do that, but not in front of people or in public, just like I taught him "please" and "thank you" (manners).

Think about this- if you're kids cannot talk about their penis or vagina or sex in front of you openly at home, how are they going to feel comfortable telling you if someone touched them there?

Parents who don't talk openly with their kids about these kind of things need to learn to. It's pat of life.

Yeah man, I was making up my mind to which side I should take.

You just convinced me this wasn't such a "wrong" scene after all, kids will take it as an innocent joke probably. A "weenie" cookie is not something that will adversely affect these kids and turned them into rapists, sociopaths or sex addicts.

They would just see it as an innocent joke, the same way any adult would react if they got it. The comedy of this scene comes from the fact that the kids are oblivious to what Williams' character is trying to imply anyways.

To put it simple. "Penises" are hilarious.

So if the child is a boy, should they then be forced to wear some kind of restrictive cuff preventing them from ever looking at their penis until such time as whatever repressed, terrified society feels it is no longer damaging?

In fact, what kids really need is forbearance. In this case, forbearance from pretending that the world isn't what it is.

Every kid watches the adults and says, "When I grow up, I'm not turning out like this." When they meet the occasional adult that adhered to that credo, you can see it on their faces.

And that's what you see in that scene with the penis cookie.

Remember, God--and kids--see the inward parts of a man, not the outward appearances.

I think your problem should be with the parents of the children. Not the film makers.
I always think of movies where fat people are made fun of because they are fat, and then think they're getting paid for it anyway. It doesn't justify it, but it was always going to happen.
If you managed to convince the kids and parents not to do the movie, someone else and their kid would.
It's just a dick anyway.
