Terrible direction

DeVito can't direct his way out of a paper bag. Inept camera angles, jarring editing, and terrible lighting distract from what is already a pretty annoying story with OTT writing and acting. No wonder John Stewart skewered this embarrassment relentlessly.

I have to disagree. The point of it was to be over the top. If you analyze it too deeply, it takes away from the enjoyment. It's weirdness is its beauty. Same goes for the cinematography and editing. DeVito's style in his previous films has been very visual and very "in your face". I loved the different camera work this featured and the different lighting cues and styles. It had an interesting theatrical noir look. I especially loved the production design all around. Everything is strange and unique.
