It's pretty much the way it was in the movie. She was his first wife (I'm not sure if she was the first but definitely wife) because she got pregnant and he didn't want a big scandal.They later divorced (obviously)

Charlie Chaplin was married twice to 16 year old girls actually.
His first wife was in 1918 to 16 year old film extra/aspiring actress Mildred Harris although they divorced a couple of years later.Mildred Harris continued acting in bit parts until her early death from pnuemonia in 1944.
His second wife was 16 year old beauty Lolita MacMurray in 1924 (who later changed her name to the "better sounding" Lita Grey thereby hoping to gain a career in the movie industry & briefly played juvenile leads on the 1920's)
This second marriage lasted three years & produced two sons (both later actors by the way) of Charles Chaplin Jnr & Sydney Chaplin.
His third marriage was in 1936 to statuesque 19 year old film star Paulette Goddard wich lasted until their divorce in 1942.
The following year he married for the last time to 18 year old Oona O'Neill (who was the daughter of Irish playwright Eugene O'Neill) which was by & large a happy marriage until his death at the age of 88 in 1977.This last marriage produced eight children including the famous actress Geraldine Chaplin who was born in 1944.
