Cosutmes

Whatever else you might say about the movie, I'd say you've got to admit the costumes were pretty hot.

Was it just me or were all of them black and white?

reply

Yes they were all black and white. I have a copy of this movie with a 'making of the movie' short after it, and the costume designer talks about the costumes. She says that the director asked her to put everyone in black and white. She also says that a lot of the pieces were vintage finds.

I actually read a review where they criticised the costumes as cheap and unconvincing and so I wasn't expecting much but I thought the costumes were impressive and seemed authentic to me. The hats for the costume party were glorious. The 'Anatomy of the scene" feature on the DVD is very informative about the costume design (as well as production, music, etc.) I thought they would have strapped Kirsten down a bit more though as the ideal at the time was to be more flat chested.

Although the costumes were visually striking, I thought they LOOKED like costumes.
Also, the sets looked like sets.
Unlike other movies set in this period (ie LITTLE GLORIA, HAPPY AT LAST), this movie had no "feel" for the era at all.
