Worst movie ever!

This thing sucks. They made Chaplin look like a jackass and the makers obviously did very little research about the 1920s...also, very poorly written. 1/10

I'm known as one to like anything with a plot and a picture that moves, but this is pathetic.

I'm not old enough to know of Charlie first hand but I've heard he wasn't at all like the comedic character he portrayed in the movies.

In fact, in this movie, it is likely he was portrayed in an authentic manner. Do some research before blabbing like you're "in-the-know" about a legendary actor.

...I NEVER said that Charlie Chaplin was like the tramp character he plays on screen. It's pretty obvious that he wasn't like that. But, what I'm trying to say is that Charlie Chaplin was a comical genius and they make him look like a jackass.

reply

This movie has nothing to do with how genius Chaplin was though. This isn't about his career. The only thing they do talk about involving his career is how he was over budget on the Gold Rush (which was true). How he knocked up his leading actress (which was true)and how A Woman of Paris did terrible because he wasn't in it (which was true). What do you want them to do? Lie to protect Chaplins reputation?

reply

No lies are necassary, if they did more-- OR ANY research they could find how he was in person. Watch "Chaplin" with Robert Downey Jr. to get a better feel of his personality; the good, the bad, and the ugly instead of watching this. Not to mention it's a hell of a lot better written.
The people who made this were SO *beep* anti-Charlie and put friggin Davies on a pedistool. Even though she, you know, had a decades long affair with a married man.

reply

I dont see how this was "anti-charlie"

Also I think people are forgetting this was 2 days in the life of these people. And they were all isolated on a boat. they showed what they could of marion partying, drinking having an affair.
Charlie was a known swordsmen. And for underage girls at that. Its all been well documented up until his death. He was an immoral man when it came to women. It is also known that his autobiography is, well, fiction. Noone is denying his genius when it comes to his career. He was fantastic. but he had a thing for women and wasnt afraid to hide it.

reply

I don't think it made Chaplin look like a jackass. It just portrayed Choplin as a man in love (and that is a state in which most of us can look like jackasses).

Criticism is hard to take, particularly from a relative, friend, acquaintance or stranger.

reply

From what I've read, Charlie Chaplin was both a comical genius AND a jackass.

anybody who says that any movie is 'the worst movie ever' is either engaging in hyperbole (which is an offence to logical thinking, unless there is a proper build-up), or has never seen the movie 'terror in tiny town'.

yee-haa. people, people, people! i got news- just as there as no best movie ever, there is no worst movie ever.

i do not mean to offend, but there is no 'worst movie ever'. there are just movies that we like, and movies that we don't like, and movies that we dislike.

Worst movie ever? 2 word suggestion - Tiger Warsaw.

I'm going to give this movie a shot right now (it's just starting) and try to enjoy the scenery, decor, and art deco madness. I love antiques and set my standards low so as I'm rarely disappointed.

worst ... Mo Money ...

reply

I enjoyed this movie plenty. And if there is no worst movie ever, "Alone in the Dark" (2005) was certainly making a run for it.

Yuck!

reply

Ron, you have a valid point. I stand corrected.

Let's be fair to the original poster. Maybe that person has seen every movie made in the history of film. LOL.

reply

I think it's a stretch to call it the worst movie ever. It was entertaining and the acting was decent. I think it's safe to say that Peter Bogdanovich's glory days are behind him. He's no longer making movies of the quality of Targets, the Last Picture Show and Paper Moon. At this point, I'd even settle for something along the lines of Mask, his only really strong film of the 1980s. But at least he had a good run. Only a few filmmakers can boast as many good films as he's made.

I don't see how you can call this the worst movie ever. There are SO many others which deserve it. I'm guessing the Original Poster didn't like the movie and gave us his 2¢ worth. The thing is, is that it's only worth 2¢! Most opinions are priceless, though.

I thought it was all right.

Why do people hate this film so much?

I don't know. I thought this movie was pretty good. I've watched my DVD of it quite a few times.

reply

Yeah, I rented it from Blockbuster several years back, and like it.

A good movie.

reply

Since your OP was in 2007, I assume you have finally seen more than 3-4 films and realize that THE CAT'S MEOW isn't the worst movie ever.

reply

You obviously have never watched Plan 9 from Outer Space or most of the films starring Arch Hall, Jr.
