every hunger games board is filled with whiny cun_ts accusing collins for plagiarism from this film. it's significantly different though so their accusations are pretty baseless.
______________ History is written by the victors.
Yeah, there are loads of idiots trolling the THG board. They don't originate here though. We're mostly here because we love Battle Royale, not because we want to score imaginary internet points against another franchise just out of spite. I hope you can judge each franchise on its own merits.
There are many ways in which THG and BR are similar, but no reason why they can't have emerged independently. In any case, the author of the original Battle Royale novel openly admitted that he was heavily influenced by the works of Stephen King, so it's not like we'd gain some kind of moral high ground by trying to establish which is more "original".
This hasn't stopped people, though, as you can see when you look around the threads on this board...
I watched Battle Royal to see what all the fuss was about after watching the Hunger Games.
I was very disappointed with the film as a whole. The acting, violence, and directing was all over the place. I've watched other Asian films that were much better than BR and THG, but to me there's no middle ground- they're either really good or really bad. Battle Royal fell into the latter category for me.
What I do find funny is the Netflix suggestions based on movies you've watched. Battle Royal caused a bunch of weird films to show up like a ninja sex slave movie on a search for a magical penis, something about parasites in feces that turned people into zombies with a name like "something vs the ass zombies". Haha
I can definitely say that when I first saw The Hunger Games I had never heard of Battle Royale. I didn't know this movie existed. So, yeah, the reason I ended up discovering BR for myself is directly because of THG conversations.
Personally, I tend not to dissect everything when it comes to movies/tv. I like both of these movies.
I think THG spent more time on the politics surrounding the games but toned down the gore. BR only skirts around why the battle is taking place and instead concentrates nearly completely on great bloody battle scenes.
I saw Battle Royal before I knew about The Hunger Games. I finally got around to watching The Hunger Games tonight. I don't think the idea of kids killing each other is unique enough where two different writers couldn't independently come up with the idea. And even if the Hunger Games author got the idea of kids killing each other from Battle Royal, the movies were different enough. Note: I haven't read any books the two movies were spawned from.
