Did the father ever make up with the son, or was that implied? Or did they never make up at all?
They never make up.
When the bride and her ex-boss are caught in the car by those cops, Wouldn't the cops have followed her back home after she drives off?
No, because the cops were rather there to harass the two of them (this is a reality with cops in India, Mira Nair tells about it in the director's commentary track), than to see if something illegal was happening. The cops were very well aware of what the two were doing in the car, and take great pleasure in harassing them for that exact reason.
The bride's ex would never made the cops follow her, because he was married, and he was two-timing his wife by getting in a relationship with Aditi (the bride). Remember the scene where Aditi, at her home, while the whole family is there in the living room, sneaks off to another room to call her ex, and a woman picks up? So he would definitely see to it that it would not become a police case, which increases the chances his wife finds out what he has been up to.
