Indeed. I seem to recall a scene where a militiaman takes a direct hit from an RPG, and his body explodes all over the place. Kind of disgusting really, but was probably something these guys saw in there. I think the OP is grossly exaggerating his perception.
On a somewhat related note, I do recall some parts of the book by Bowden, where he discusses the effect that the American weaponry had on the Somali militiamen. Accounts of Aidid's soldier being hewn in two by fifty caliber rounds. Arms and legs taken clean off by the impact of those very powerful rounds. Battlefield casualties from the American miniguns and rockets. That whole area must have been an horrific mess the next day. My heart goes out to the family members and neighbors who had to deal with the remains following that event. I can't even begin to imagine what that's like.
