"Opium of dumb asses"

Some have commented that, rather than God, the Devil inspired these poor misguided, murderous bible-thumpers. As if there is a difference. Don't God's followers believe that He created the Devil? This movie correctly portrays religious fanatics as Full-Goose Cuckoo Bananas Insane. If you think someone's a demon, for the love of God, just axe 'em.

Karl Marx was right, "Religion is the opium of DUMB ASSES".

If you are an Atheist fine, no need to insult posters who believe in God.

reply

Religious fanatics of any stripe are destructive to society. Those who are so easily insulted are looking for a reason to be offended. Perhaps their God will provide an extra cookie when they reap their reward.

reply

Yes because your name calling wouldn't offend anyone. I don't call atheist fanatics or easily insulted.

Noone222,
'Frailty' depicts a real religious fanatic who is certain that God wants him to 'destroy demons' who turn out to be human beings. For the good of society, fanatics should absolutely be labeled as such, ridiculed, exposed and opposed. Unless fanaticism is your religious dogma, you should grow a thicker skin. Not all discussion of religion is a put down. Or, are you insecure in your beliefs?

I don't call atheist(s) fanatics or easily insulted
Yet you continue to cling to a desire to feel insulted. Believe it or not, sometimes it's not all about you!

reply

You called anyone a dumbass who believes in God. Sorry I took it wrong.

reply

Not to imply dumbassedry on anyone's part, but he agreed with a Karl Marx quote that included dumb-asses in the van diagram of people who believe in religion, not god necessarily, but religion.

The quote implies that dumb-asses worship dogmatic religion, it also does NOT imply that only dumb-asses do, so that's your little conundrum to deal with, logic 101, not usually stressed in dogmatic religion, so we understand.

God created the angel Lucifer, but Lucifer was responsible for his own fall from grace.

Why on Earth would the devil want them to kill "evil" people? What would the devil have to gain from making Adam kill a man who murdered his mother?

That isn't the quote. You don't even understand what it means.

What was that? Sorry, I wasn't listening...
I didn't even understand what you means.

Dumb Ass!

Just a theory.. if you believe in the devil and he is the one manipulating the killings. Perhaps he is gathering his army for the end battle and reaping souls? Just a random thought. Nothing ever brought up in the movie, but just something that could be possible.

But the father had not always been a religious fanatic. It wasn't religion that may him mentally ill, but his notions of God helped give his delusions their particular character. I doubt his religion told its followers that they had to kill demons.

"Religion is the opium of the people" is the correct quote.

He made no such statement that only the ignorant, unintelligent or intellectually innocent believe in religion. Nor did he imply that it was members of the E africanus asinus species.

I will however agree with you that fanaticism in any form is dangerous (even if it is a part of Human psychology). This pertains to religious-based fanaticism, as well as those who have blind faith in other things, such as the government or science.

In fact given that you have put in the time and effort here on IMDB to essentially insult huge numbers of religious people of varying denominations (I myself am not one of them), with a high degree of self-righteousness and closed-mindedness, it could be said that you yourself are a fanatic, albeit of a different cause.

As for the topic of "was this God or the Devil", well that's a topic for theologians to discuss, not the general masses on a public forum, particularly those who have not had any education in such matters.
