They don't make em like this anymore!!
This is a perfect example of what a great horror/thriller should be. Very few films use this formula anymore while trying to do a good horror film. Frailty has the good creepy story along with great acting and character development.
One film that comes to mind (although not as good) is Disturbia. Only a very few handful of films over the last 15 years have done it right and had the great story to go along with the chilling and horror aspect as well.
Now we get these SAW type films and found footage with cheap scares and absolutely no good stories along with the god awful acting. What's being pawned off to the masses as horror these days is just plain garbage yet people (I assume mostly younger ages 16-23) pay to see them and hence we keep getting sequels and more garbage.
I literally cannot remember the last good horror/thriller that was actually very good. People will say "It Follows" is one but I seriously beg to differ on that one. Maybe "The Conjuring " and "Sinister" IMO are the better horror films in recent years . This just says how low the bar has been set for the "horror genre" nowadays. While those were good they worked because of cheap camera tricks and pop out scares. Not much story or character development in them.
Now I'm not saying that all horror needs to follow this formula and it is fun to get the cheesy stuff along with some cheap camera work scares but all in all its been a while since anything great has been made.
This is why movies like Frailty stand alone in the thriller/horror genre still. It's not that memorable and many people probably don't even know about it but because the horror genre bar is set so low this film stands on its own with only a handful of others over the last 10-15 years. Just MHO on the matter.
