Please clarify confusion on ending

I thought this was a terrific movie and the ending was terrific, irrelevant of someone's religiouis beliefs. This was loosely based on serial killer J. Kalinger. Anyway I was just confused about why M.M. lied about his name to the sheriff at the end?? Also, what would cause Fenton to be viewed as as a demon by his brother. I didn't understand that. The other demons committed horrible crimes so how could his father see him as a demon when he hadn't don't anything yet. Also, if Fenton was a serial killer later on in life, why would he prevent his father from killing anyone earlier on?

Fenton was seen as a demon because he refused to accept God. It is explained by MM sometime in the end.

MM lied about his name early on. Later, what he told Powers Boothe was the truth.

And I thought the same thing about Adam. His time in the cellar made him a demon. But maybe that's all there is to it. He was a normal kid and he was turned into a psychopath, even though his dad and brother were angels.

How did you make the leap that his dad and brother where angels lol. His father said the angel told him he was a demon well before he went to the cellar so your explanation makes no sense.

What makes ultimately more sense to me was that the father was psychic in some way and attached his own religious beliefs to it in an effort to understand what he was experiencing.

I think when he was a child, they were implying that he was a demon because he couldn't see the visions like his dad and brother. Also I always thought that because he didn't believe, what his dad made him do when he was a child is what caused him to become a serial killer.

reply

I think he was seen as a demon because he was going to betray them in the future and impede the demon killing work.

I think mm led about his name to the cop because he was the only other person at the station when mm originally went to speak with the fbi agent. His identity at that time was Fenton... To be innocent at the end he had to be Adam.. That cop was the only one who ever saw the man who went to speak to the fbi agent. When he later sees mm he (the cop) has that look on his face like he may recognize him... as the man who went to see the agent. Hence; it would have made revealed his true identity.
