The "god" of this movie is one whom deserves neither worship nor respect

SPOILER

Since we're told in the end that Dad and Adam were right, and Fenton was wrong (and was all along a demon), UNLESS we dismiss all the events told by Adam (unreliable narrator):
- Fenton was turned into a monster by Dad (self-fulfilling prophecy)
- Whatever "deity" that commands the torture of kids to turn them into monsters to then have his followers kill them (but only after they already racked up a body count) is a demon, plain and simple.

Remember how the road to hell is paved by good intentions.

So if good intentions take you to Hell, where do bad intentions take you to? OZ...

I'm pretty sure Dad was supposed to kill Fenton and not try to get him to see "God." Adam mentions something about Dad not being able to do what he needed to with Fenton, you know, destroy him(because you don't kill demons).

reply

Yep. I love the movie but the god in the movie is a sadistic fvck. Why not spare these poor children from the gore and violence and either kill the "demons" yourself or just have the dad do it? While not intended, I choose to believe the ending as Adam and his dad are insane and we were seeing events through those eyes. I'd rather believe that a crazy Adam killed his innocent brother Fenton and justifies his killings in his mind by making up stories about his victims.

reply

Nope. Adam and Chet were angels. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

reply

Except that's not what happened at all and fails to explain a bunch of events in the film, such as what happened to the camera footage and why the office forgot all about Fenton's face despite looking right at him.

The writer outright states on the commentary that within the context of the story, they were were right. They weren't insane, all this happened.

One of the children was a demon...the other was being prepped to become someone that would help remove demons from the world.

Within the story, that's what happened.

So, I take it you've never read the bible?

reply

We don't know what actually gave these loathesome assh-les their visions. It could just as easily be the devil or something without any actual consciousness

Considering Felton never did anything to justify being killed, I doubt they're meant to be in the right morally. I hope. Even if the other victims were awful people

reply

If the deity in this movie is God, good luck telling him he's wrong.

Truer words have never been spoken!!

Although, I think MovieMusings has a very valid point!

reply

Most gods that people believe in don't deserve respect or worship either, so I don't see any difference.
