The Ending ...

I just watched this today for the first time since I saw it in 2003, and I'm confused about the ending. Did she really just quit the job she worked so hard for and gave up her dream to be with a guy? Because that's ridiculous. But then why was she flying a plane? Did she now become a pilot instead?

reply

The whole point was that she found being a flight attendant not as fulfilling as she had imagined (notice how bored and unhappy she was in the Paris scenes).

She found her real happiness in giving up the international route to be with her love. She then presumably pursued a larger career path in becoming a pilot. So she "had it all" at the end.

Yes, it's ridiculous. The guy could have given up whatever he had but no. The woman is supposed to do that.

And why should she become a pilot?
