I honestly don't know why everyone hates on this movie.

If you watch the dvd and see additional scenes you'll see John Leguizamo saying that in this movie you will never see something and say "That can't happen in real life."
This movie is not about giving you an ending that will blow your mind (even though it does) it's about "Real Life" which is "Drama" in this cruel worl of ours, like we all know. The movie basically tells you a great story with a great end that makes everyone think that Victor Rosa is about to get killed and 5 minutes later Victor Rosa is talking about how he started a new life, so when John Leguizamo does actually gets killed peoople say "Oh i knew it would happen". So once again it's supposed to be ironic not surprising.
Amazing movie 9/10.

i liked this movie there were twists and some parts were boring but it didnt last too long and most of the cast was great and denise richards was hot. 7/10

reply

Yo for real this movie was good, even though it took some of its idea from "carlito's way" it's still a really good movie, if you listen to all the statements and everything, it's a really good Latino movie, which is underrated.

GOOD

I dig everyone's opinions here...your all entitled. Here goes mine. My aunt is Stracey Diaz she played Gina..(Fat Joe's Home girl) and I was on set while they filmed in the Bx. I thought that Frank (Director/Writer) was giving a very "Real" description of what living in The Bx is like if you take that direction in life. I loved how the "hustler" got hustled by the "business man". That was very Ironic and kinda showed a vulnerable side to a "hard core" person like John Leguizamo's character Victor. Im am not in favor of this movie because I know the writer and understand his point of view..I think that the script was well written and the main idea was great. A beautifully shot movie for it's budget!!!!

Empire is one of my favorite movies. I'm a fan of some of the people in this movie:John Leguizamo, Treach, Vincent Laresca, Sonia Braga. I have been a fan of John's for over fifteen years. He's super talented. Treach is pretty much a legend in Hip Hop and one of the sexiest and most beautiful men alive. I enjoyed his role as "Chedda" he had some great lines in this movie. It would have been better to see more of Treach, John Laresca and Fat Joe. They were all wonderful.

I don't care what some people think about this movie but it's my favorite of all-time. We can't make people like this movie and they can't make us not like it. That's why I don't make a big deal about people hatin' on this movie

reply

If that's your favorite movie, I hope all you've ever seen is that and The Grinch. Seriously. Your Favorite? Hell, you could stay in the genre, and see actual good movies like Blow, Boondock Saints, True Romance, 25th Hour. You know, films with actual talent acting in them, with a plot that actually makes any kind of sense, and dialogue that doesn't sound like a 15 year old who just discovered rap wrote it. It's a shame, because Leguizamo is a decent actor, hilarious too, and yet this movie was one of the worst written, horribly directed pieces of trash I've ever seen. If you call that "hating on it", then fine, but seriously, go rent those movies I mentioned.

Seen Blow and I like that movie. I've seen lots of movies and Empire is my favorite. I have no interest to see those other 3 movies. Do those movies have Delilah Cotto? She's the reason I like this movie

reply

It's not "realistic" at all. It's not "real life" at all. They just copied a bunch of *beep* from better movies.

That's why everyone hates on it.

reply

I'm sorry, but I could not sit through this movie. I walked out when Leguizamo got shot in the first twenty minutes or so. These kinds of movies is that they get made all the time. Real life - maybe, but the problem is that people turn to this type of story to make a quick buck. You've seen one and you've seen them all. The characters are the same, the plots are the same. There's nothing original about them.

reply

The Boondock Saints is hardly "good". It's a redundant rip-off of Tarantino and Scorsese. Entertaining but unoriginal; I wouldn't use it as leverage in an arguement when putting down another film.

"Jack, I swear..."

Dream out loud.

I own Empire and I own all of those movies besides 25th Hour.
If anything is predictable, it has to be 25th Hour. That movie could have been so much better but I like it less than Empire.
Empire isn't my favorite movie but it definitely isn't as bad as you make it out to be.

"Go back to your ghetto" isn't on the dvd version. He says something like "You ghetto piece of *beep*

You know, "hate" isn't a word that should be followed by the word "on". Unless of course you are doing your hating while on top if something e.g. "I hate on the roof", meaning: When I want to hate something/someone, I do so whilst standing/sitting on the roof of my house/car/whatever.

reply

I'm confused what did the roof do to you?

reply

Wow, you're a real *beep* Why would you hate on someone else's culture? That's what you're doing when you insult their way of speaking English. You must be some real uptight cracka sitting in some high-rise apartment like Jack. Language evolves and you have to evolve with it. There's nothing you can do.

reply

Everyone hates this movie because the "go back to your ghetto!" line that was in the trailer and teaser was deleted from the theatrical cut of the movie.

reply

umm, where did you see this at again ? that line was in the theatre cut.

reply

I found it awfully boring. That’s all.

@ original poster... i dont hate it either. it's WAY better than it's 5.9/10 rating shows!

i give it a 8/10 myself... it's a movie i can watch many times and not get tired of ;) it's a well done movie and John Leguizamo MADE this film! ;)

reply

People hate this movie because it sucks.

reply

Some of you are doing the most with the sarcasm LOL. I actually enjoyed this movie. It came out when I was around 15 and I grew up around drug dealers and it seemed pretty realistic. I just thought Vic was so dumb to trust that dude like that.I remember my parents wouldn't let me buy it but someone at school let me borrow the VCD (what y'all know about those LOL).

reply

Truth.
