i thought this movie was pretty good, but wasnt it kind of dumb that he would borrow money from that lady? i mean she was charging him 500% interest, so he would have to make the money turn over 5 times in order to break even. but i guess it could be seen as a way of getting her to let him leave peacefully.
He was only borrowing 1.5m. He was putting another 5m in himself. If the new investment doubled, he would get 13m and give 7.5m to La Colombiana. That would leave him only 500k richer but I'm pretty sure the new investment was going to return more than double since it was a $600m fund instead of a $60m fund. So really, he planned on making a minimum of 500k.
So...you're saying that you believe $600m can be turned into $1.2b, or even exponentially more, easier than $60m can turn into $120m? Please remind me to never hire you as my investment consultant.
I was even dumber that he would give those money away... THAT could never happen and as street smart as he was (and needed to be in order to survive), he would have smelled the con man in 5 minutes.
When you invest THAT kind of money, you do it with a contract, checked by your lawyer and so on. You don't just give it away and wait for it to come back. You check who you're giving it to: real people, real companies, real deeds (e.g. on their property) etc.
In that business everything is done without a contract. It's all about your word. If you don't fulfill your obligation you get rubbed out. Technically I think it was Jack who was the dumb one to think he would get away with screwing over a drug dealer.
Sadly in real life it happens so much they made a show about it and it's been on for years: American Greed! Even celebrities get caught up with WTF investments. Crazy!
