I have only seen this movie once. But doesnt it end the same way it started. The open your eyes part. I took that to mean everything from beginning to end was all a dream. Not just after the car crash.

I'm wondering that too, because the voice in that very first scene saying "open your eyes" was Sophia's, and he hadn't even met her yet.

No that's subjective thinking. Sophia's voice at the beginning was CLEAR as day. Even Roger Ebert was confused.

It was all a dream.

Some of his scenes with Brian at the beginning seem to suggest that those are part of the dream as well with their conversations focused on specific subconscious details of their friendship.
