My husband and I visit New York every fall and we always watch this movie before we go. I know Vanilla Sky has always had a polarized audience, you either love it or hate it. I definitely love it. The music, atmosphere, details of it all. It's just perfect. Hard to believe it was released 14 years ago.. wowza!

shareAgreed. Vanilla Sky works on many levels. An important one being visuals. Lynch said the aim of 'Eraserhead' was to convey a 'moving painting' but I never felt that. For me, Vanilla Sky did what Lynch could only dream of.
As for critics, you should check out Ebert's review. It truly is an excellent review. He even compares it to Abre Los Ojos, citing Vanilla as the fully orchestrated version.

shareIt's a great film and, personally, I think it's Tom Cruise's best ever performance.
I've seen it a few times because it's one of my favorites- I just finished a viewing of it actually.
I think it holds up well over time.
Also, as a Radiohead fan, it's hard for me to find fault with a film that has their music in it.
And Penelope Cruz is just beautiful in this. You can understand why he wanted to spend forever in a dream with her.
