If Birdman came out in 2001, it would have been panned too. I have seen Open Your Eyes and I prefer Vanilla Sky. Great performances, great score...just great. And, I can admit I saw it when it came out and gave it a thumbs down. But, I was still a teen. Young and dumb!

I never ever had imagined, not even in my wildest dreams, that one day I would meet someone who thinks a remake is shead of its time. Congratulations.

Maybe in some ways a remake could be considered ahead of its time, hehe. This one? It's an impressive one but I'm not so sure.

Agreed, this take on the original has a unique vibe about it, in terms of style art, directing soundtrack, cinematography.
