Was David truly freed at the end?

Falling is an easy way to wake up from a dream, but since the drunken scene where he lied on the street with the mask (or even sooner) he's had zero control and all of the characters in the story were purely mouthpieces of his mind.

It's possible David exists 150 years later but it's also possible they shot him or dreaming for an escape was just one of his many dreams.

It's left up to interpretation, whatever makes the movie play out best for you, I guess. For me, I simply just follow what the film is telling us at the end, it's a perfect ending.

i believe that he truly does wake up 150 years in the future with somewhat of a clean slate. im not sure if he is supposed to remember any of what he dreamed or what happened to make himself want to be frozen. but i believe the falling to the death was him conquering the decision of falling into the unknown of waking up in the future.
