What killed that doctor guy?

The bald guy with the glasses that they find in the desert. What exactly kills him? They are asking him what happened, then all the sudden he just falls over dead. At first I thought the shriekers had attacked him, which is why there is blood on his back. But if the shriekers attacked his back, wouldn't he be paralyzed?..or wouldn't he atleast have had an extremely difficult time moving because of the ruptured back disks? Besides, the blood on his back looked quit orange, like shrieker blood, from what I recall. So what killed him?

My friend assumed he died because of hypothermia, due to him being covered in that fire extinguisher stuff. That makes the most since to me.

I'd assumed it was shock and/or damage to his back, probably by those tongues with the hooks - probably not enough damage to hurt his backbone or prevent him moving.

What puzzled me the most about that scene was how he was explaining that he knew that heat attracted them and he had used the fire extinguisher to cool/disguise his body heat (as they had done in Tremors 2) yet his face was perfectly clear! They would have seen his head/face as a heat source and killed him. Surprised nobody had picked up on that yet, or if they have/did, I've yet to see it. :)

Oh as for the blood colour on his back, yes it looked a bit orangy but remember blood turns from red to brown over time so that might explain it.

Just a couple of points to add to this..

First, I think the orange was a mistake. The artificial blood not mixing well with the fire extinguisher foam.

Second.. The reason the fire extinguisher didn't work was it was a CHEMICAL extinguisher instead of a CO2 extinguisher.

The frosting effect from the CO2 would last minutes at best.
The man certainly wouldn't have still been frosty after walking from where he was attacked.

That's a chemical extinguisher? It looked like barber foam.
