Fighting ability

I know its just a movie but how cool would it be to fight like Jason Bourne, only for self defence? He looks like "regular Joe", not heavily muscled or intimidating (not saying "regular Joes' aren't good fighters). I was impressed how he beat the crap out of people, that were trying to kill him.

The great thing about Bourne is he wins against the "best of them", in other words, he defeats most assailants. Sometimes assassins test him but Bourne wins the fight.

reply

I think it depends on the fighter/style. Bourne has fantastic reflexes and adaptability. Let's not forgot he's also highly intelligent, probably smarter than any pro fighter.

reply

Lots of training which would include a lot of bruises and broken bones. You don't get to be a highly skilled fighter without taking a lot of abuse from your teacher.

reply

Not convinced on the broken bones because that would defeat the object, but bruises yes you definitely need to condition the body to take hits.

"I'm Brian and so's my wife!"

reply

You mean Matt Damon, right? It's a movie, remember. They were great fight scenes, and the character Jason Bourne kicked so much ass yuu lost track. I don;t know why he just didn't shoot them. He always had at least one gun. Anyway the person in charge of directing and choreographing the fight scenes was great. Much more believable than the Chinese kung fu movies for some reason. maybe because he may have beaten up 5 guys, or more in, a long scene, but sequentially, not all at once.

reply

@danthaler I don;t know why he just didn't shoot them. He always had at least one gun.
Bourne had amnesia - did you forget? lol.

That's why in the embassy he puts the gun that he acquired into a rubbish bin: he had the skills of an assassin, but lost the mindset.

reply

You're REALLY into it. No, I don't remember all of that. Just happened to watch the Bourne Ultimatum on You Tube last week for the umpteenth time, like the other ones. It's hard to find movies on You Tube. His movies always have terrific and believable fight scenes. I wonder if he actually knows "something" in real life. Not literally like Jason Bourne, but he's got a super good physique, which you can't really tell with his shirt on. He's definitely athletic, he's just got that baby face all American boy look, like he'll hit you with a glass of milk or something, but clean up after himself after.

reply

Well boxers are sportsmen/women so it wouldn't be a fair fight because they can't eye gouge, elbow, attack the groin etc. But against an MMA type fighter, Borne would kill them all because they are all dumb *beep* who can't fight for *beep* and all they do is wrestle people to the ground and lay on them and use their fat assness to win because they have no talent.

reply

mma fighters do have talent takeing someone to the ground is a skill. but in the old school and realistic no holds barred days a guy like Jon hess or Scott Ferrozzo would beat the shi t out of Jason Bourne

reply

fighting for sport and fighting for survival are very different. it is one thing being in a ring and a another being in a changing environment and fighting for your life. as others have stated, bourne has the experience and intelligence to utilize his surroundings. wrestlers, fighters and boxers are restricted in their methods and not used to ambiguity. while these fighters may have an advantage in brute force, the foresight and quickness of thought and action would be superior, in my opinion.

reply

I was really impressed by Bourne's single-mindedness, and the way he advanced, and took the fight to the opponent - and then when he went on the back foot, but still in control. And his techniques, improving weapons.

reply

Co-signed - I'd also add that outside of the physicality of training fighting is mostly a mental game in terms of control, aggression and decisiveness. Bourne excels at these. In a ring he may actually lose due to the constraints of the rules. Bourne is conditioned to fight for his life at all costs, no tapping out, no ko, no time out and no points, he must react and move on.

Secondly in reference to people calling MMA and Boxers dumb go a challenge a few, try and keep your composure and battle plans against people who will probably always be a few moves ahead of you.

reply

I will definitely sign in a fight class

reply

Hate to say it but I've used a move from I think was a krav maga tutorial video and basically if your reflexes are fast enough you basically hit them in the neck with a hand that is like if you were going to grab a large bottle of soda (for americans) above the adams apple. This shocks them and they can't breath and if they can't breath and with the shock you can do what you want. I've read the kill punch is a direct hard punch to the adams apple. How true that is I'm not sure. all I know is the fast "grab" to the neck gives you an advantage as they're so shocked by it. It's a cheat move imo but not if your life depends on it. The moves in these movies are usually to be used if your life depends on it.

And no. I'm not trying to sound like some super badass. If someone pulled a knife or gun on me for my wallet I'd just give it up.

reply

What if you don't have time to carry out a move like that? Some people are strong and fast, for instance they grab your shirt/sweater with one hand, so you're off balance and in their control, and they punch you with their other hand, you become a "rag doll" because you're not strong enough to get free from their grip and off balance. I saw this on TV and the victim didn't have time to react or fight back because it happened so fast.

reply

Bourne is awesome, best assassin with conscience. It's all about reflexes, dense bone and highly trained muscle memory stuff... some dumb ass boxer just can't win against him by punching a bag all day long, nor some martial artist round kicking the air... bourne trained by killing, there is no better training than that.

reply

bourne trained by killing?

LOL yea, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

Anywho - plenty of "Jason Bourne type" fighters out there (try krav maga/ bujinkan ninjutsu)

and you dont need to look like a body builder to do it- like genius above me said, muscle memory and reflexes does the job the human body is very fragile if you know where to hit.

I loved the fight scenes also. I think a character like Jason Bourne in real life (some kind of highly trained super soldier warrior) would probably come out how soldiers have done in some experimental reality shows that do that kind of thing; the soldier wins in any scenario outside a ring with rules. Pro fighters (even in UFC) still play to a set of rules. No knees to a downed opponent, no hair pulling, no eye gouges, no shots to the crotch etc.

For this reason, a guy like Bourne might lose fights in the ring but step out on the street and any UFC fighter except the baddest of them would get steam rolled most likely. Bourne would not play by the rules. He'd kill or severely maim the guy as quickly and efficiently as possible. Obviously, the training UFC/MMA fighters put in makes them exceptional street fighters as well but a guy who has been trained his entire life as an assassin is training for a different purpose; to kill and maim people quick and easy.

I saw a show where a bunch of MMA fighters went and did some hard core army training for a day. In all the hand-to-hand stuff they smoked the average soldier obviously. Yet, as soon as they put the UFC fighters in the forest all their fighting skills went out the window. They were getting ambushed and taken down quickly and often with improvised weapons by the soldiers. It is not that the skills in both realms aren't similar, it is just that a soldier or assassin trains to the full extent in all situations to win fights by any means necessary while a UFC/MMA fighter trains to win fights sometimes even by a controversial decision given by three judges.

I'd be scared to step into the octagon with any of these awesome MMA guys but I'd be scared *beep* being anywhere on the planet with a Jason Bourne or someone like him on my tail. I'd be sufficiently screwed! Again; in a cage according to UFC rules, the mma fighter takes the win. Literally in any other situation or with rules thrown out the window a Jason Bourne wins every single fight every single time.

reply

When I think of Bourne I think of a guy with amnesia but the amnesia helps him out. It gets a lot of the mind. haha. I think of him as somebody completely in the moment at all times. A zen master.

reply

Since Bourne isn't real it's impossible to tell how he would do against an MMA fighter like someone in the UFC. But if he's as good as in the movies I'd put my money on Bourne. Simply because UFC is riddled with rules. A fight for your life has no rules, I would think someone used to fighting for his life has an advantage in such a fight over someone that fights in some kind of sport.

Biting, eye gouging, small joint manipulation like breaking fingers and such, objects used as weapons. There are tons of things MMA fighters aren't trained againt.

A UFC fighter for example would beat anyone within the rules of their game but definetly not in a fight where your life is on the line. Knowing that your opponent is actually trying to kill you and you will have to kill him would be stressful psychologically as well, so they'd have that disadvantage against someone used to killing as well.

The correct answer is none of the below. I hate to be the guy who refers to the books, but, I'm going to refer to the books. Amount of training. Plain and simple. He didn't train for a few months. He trained for years with the best of the best in each field. Adding drugs (just say no to drugs) made him basically the best at everything he did. Except for Carlos the jackyl

Frankly autocorrect, I'm getting a little tired of your shirt

reply

Bourne does some vicious stuff in the books while fighting.
