She had to back out due to a knee injury but would anyone have loved to see her instead? I'm more a fan or Kidman than Foster, but according to commentary, they made Kidman's role more on the helpless side and Jodie more strong and fighting. So that would've made for a completely different movie.

I like both actresses, and I think Nicole would have fit the role well. I mean, it is not unthinkable to imagine her as Meg. However, I'm more fan of Jodie than Nicole, so I'm happy the role finally went to Jodie. I was just watching the final scene and her acting was so great.
