Why was there no gun in the room?

So there's this high-value apartment with a panic room designed for the kind of situations happening in the movie, yet there isn't any kind of firearm in the room. I know, it doesn't really fit in the plot very well, but if I was to equip a panic room, a handgun or even assault rifle would be just about the first thing I'd want, especially in America.

That would be the option of the individual and not those who built the room. It most likely would be unlawful to secure a person with a weapon unless they choose it. She had not even set up that room or else the telephone line would have been on & obviously she's not the type to purchase a gun or she would have had one somewhere else (i.e. dresser draw, closet, etc).

It is New York City, where it is almost impossible for an ordinary citizen to legally possess a gun.

The panic room wasn't something just stumbled upon, a "secret" of the previous owner who may have left in a flash. It was known to the realtors, and used as a selling point. They could pitch "survival gear, fire blanket" etc., but not a gun, as it wouldn't be THEIR gun. Guns are registered. The previous owner may have had one, and they could have kept one in there too if they were chose to do so. But a gun wouldn't come with the home. An axe? A knife? Yeah. Not a gun.

Mayor Bloomberg would have thrown her in jail had she legally possessed a gun.

Doesn't a gun defeat the point of the panic room in the first place? If it gets to the point where you need the gun to protect yourself then whoever built you your panic room did a p*ss poor job ...

So we'll just leave unlicensed loaded firearms lying around the panic room for the next owner? Sounds like a really bright plan ... LOL!šŸ

And why weren't there any non-perishable food items in the room? They made it a point to put a bunch of water in there but no food?

reply

the mother clearly didn't take the room seriously, she didn't connect the special phone, and she's the one who is supposed to prepare the room with food. as for the guns, if you have a shot gun then you don't need a panic room in the first place, it's for crippled old people and women and children.

i mostly will not be able to answer your reply, since marissa mayer hacked my email, no notification

Because then the movie would have only been 15 minutes long.

Why was there no extra medicine, pillows, blankets, food, water in the room for plot purposes and how convenient the very first night there people decided to break in.

reply

One of the main reasons for a panic room is as an alternative for people who don't want guns in their home.
