I heard that originaly this film was meant to be more serious and a lot more intense but at a test screening of the film , the kangaroo proved to be so popular that the film was re-edited and reshot so the kangaroo would be in it more .

Is that true?

It's true that they added in the whole "talking Kangaroo" thing but I'm not sure about the more serious and intense.
