its a small step but if you want to see it sign here and start making other websites and noise and maybe we can get them to release it. if you don't try it will never happen. don't' assume they won't release it automatically. many things released because it had a fan backing so stick to it!
I remember being confused when this was released because when I originally read on IMDB the cast and story I was suprised at how different it was when I watched it...I actually didn't have much internet access back then so didn't know what happened. I would love to see the original cut :D
Life is like a movie. Only you can't pick your genre.
A novel idea, but impossible. Here are the major problems... Filming of the original plot was never completed, therefore could not be released unless additional filming were to take place. I enjoyed this film, but it was not well received and it's highly unlikely that Wes Craven, Dimension Films, or anybody else would care to pour money into such a costly project. In addition to that, intitial filming took place as far back as 2003 and many original castmembers were let go due to the change of story. I'm sure there were some bad feelings associated with this, and not likely that any would be willing to come back to complete the original filming 8 years later. So don't hold your breath, as far as Craven and Dimension are concerned, for better or worse, they completed the film and it's already history. Neither would feel a need to revisit a film that was a critical and financial flop, no matter how many signatures are gathered on a petition.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
There is. Though rough and unfinished in the sense of a full film, enough was assembled with what was shot to deem it unusable. They tried to salvage it (at the initial assembly time), and much effort was put in to keep it from disaster because even film studios like Dimension, who are known for shooting first and pasting it all together later in search of a coherent product, want to avoid reshoots. Reshoots inspire bad press and cost millions. Cursed's reshoots and reassembly were quite extensive. I can't say the assembly was much better than what we saw in theaters, but its not much worse. That said, I'm a passive fan of Cursed. I liked a lot of the stuff Wes and team threw out there. I also shook my head at a lot.
Original versions of movies usually get released for popular movies with strong followings of fans, Cursed doesn't exactly fit the criteria of either so the chances of something like this are slim, but since you posted this in 2010 disappointment must have been met more than once.
There is no "true" cut. The original planned version was never completed. They rewrote it halfway through so the original script was not filmed in its entirety and no full version of it exists.
The link below is an interview with Craven in which he states he would like to release the footage to student film makers and let them recreate the movie as they see fit. There is no ending of course, but I also would like to see what they originally intended even if it is incomplete. Mostly for the werewolf effects which Rick Baker released some pictures of (second link). I am not sure if these pictures are actual makeup test shots or just artist's renderings of transformation ideas.
