EXTREMELY boring!

This movie was extremely boring and slow. I hated all of it. The only part I liked was at the end where that boy painted him a picture, it was touching. The rest of the movie had no redeeming qualities.

I could not disagree with you more that this movie is extremely boring, I love it from beginning to end, it's one of my favorite movies of all time.

This movie was about mature emotions, loss and introspection regarding ones life. Nothing blew up and there were no car chases. So why don't you get your blankie and your bear, put on a transformers movie and STFU.

I can see why this movie would be extremely boring if you're under a certain age, but if you're anywhere near 40+ or especially "retirement" age it can be a really compelling meaningful view. I'm not Schmidt-age yet but do love the movie for all of it's spot-on accurate and often funny (sometimes pathetic) looks at banal mid-western USA and the bittersweet process of aging.

Oh and if you liked this movie, I recommend reading Bill Bryson's "The Lost Continent: Travels in Small-Town America"

Well Alexander Payne film's are not for everyone, but I agree this is a great film, an intricately woven work in which every scene has a purpose. As you say, this film deals with difficult times in peoples lives (times we will all come to know), and it does so with touching yet humourous grace. There is no neat little happing ending tied up with a bow, just like real life.
