The most tedious and overwrought movie I've ever seen

Sideways is one of my favorite comedies, so I was really disappointed at how much I disliked it. The complete lack of irony and sarcasm really irked me. I like honesty and sincerity in movies, but About Schmidt took it a little too far. Your thoughts?

Wait. Where are you going? I was going to make Espresso...

In my opinion, which you asked for, Sideways and About Schmidt are very different movies with different purposes. If you were expecting something similar to Sideways, I can imagine that you were disappointed. Personally, I consider About Schmidt to be greatly superior. IMHO, the "hero" in Sideways did not earn his reward, and I felt sorry for the woman that she was going to settle for him. Schmidt recognized his foibles, made a much more courageous sacrifice before the end, and came to a conclusion that was based on his own opening to himself as the final arbiter rather than on whether he gets the pretty girl, etc.

But of course many might disagree.

I read a few reviews before seeing it, so I expected it to be completely different, which intrigued me. About Schmidt sounded good on paper, but in my opinion, the execution was handled poorly. However, I did like the ending, but that's about it.

Wait. Where are you going? I was going to make Espresso...
