Do you know any mean-spirited people...

who achieved moral redemption toward the end of their lives?

I am lucky in that I only had one mean-spirited person who I HAD to interact with and was a part of my life for many years, and that was my father-in-law. He absolutely did not morally redeem himself at the end of his life regarding all the mean things he did to me. I know I am one of the few people who saw him for what he was, and I think he knew that, and was horrible to me. Several examples of his nastiness: One week after his wife died, he took a trip to Florida and brought a woman back with him to stay in his house for a couple of weeks. He bought my husband pricy Christmas gifts, and at the same Christmas, he would get the children and I a combined gift, such as a croquet set from CVS Pharmacy. (Absolutely true - that was the gift for me and four children.) These are small examples of his passive/aggressive behavior towards me. The very worst, which hurt me to my soul, was when he made a joke to me about my son having Type I diabetes. Can you imagine making a joke about that to a mother of a child with that disease? He was a horrible man. After he made that joke, I never spoke to him again, but no one seemed to notice. When he died, it was a relief to me not to have to look at his demonic face and deal with his cruelty. Wow, that was quite a long diatribe! Thanks for reading it!

What makes you think that Warren was "mean-spirited"? He seemed more like an ordinary man who lived his life on autopilot, never taking any risks, never thinking too deeply or doing anything to rock the boat for the first 60+ years.

He was mean-spirited toward his wife (not that she wasn't the same). They nagged and spatted with each other over everything from potato chips to Warren sitting on the toilet seat to pee to what size RV to buy.

Maybe the mean-spirited comment was about Jeannie...

Yes my paternsl grandmother. A few things:

She called my mother a slut hecause she was pregnant when she married my dad. She was 17. He was 26. . She treated mom that way until she finally died. At 94 because only the good die young.

She called me a slut at 17 when I had not even been kissed. At least this made my dad mad enough that he told her he watched het have sex with the town dr when he was age 8. She had a husband.

When dad got a vasectomy after they got pregnant with their fourth child ten yrs younger than me she asked him: How does it feel to be a cut dog?
