cheesy dull predictable movie

without a single interesting or appealing character in it.
Almost makes you embarrassed to be part of the human race.

The shooting star scene, LoL. I saw that coming but then I thought..no, they wouldn't stoop that low, not even in this flick. They have to know how cliched and ridiculous that would be.

It sucked. Not even worth the 2 bucks I paid for it. Every character was silly and repulsive. The degrees of each did vary just a bit I suppose.

Unfortunately I agree. It's a dull movie with walking clichés that never get much deeper than the surface. If I'd seen it was from that director, I would have skipped it despite the great cast (mostly wasted here). He has a history of making movies that make me go "Ugh. What a waste" when the credits roll.

Its called caricature, that's why it seems cliché. Its use in the film is ironic, yet it serves a very clear purpose in Payne's vision.

I don't think you're getting the point of the film.

This film sailed ten feet above your head.

LoL. Perhaps crap like this strikes juvenile dimwits as profound or deep or complex. To the rest of us, it's obviously anything but. It was witless and cheap, sentimental yet ugly. It didn't sail over my head...it rolled limply to my feet. (Kicks it away)

Oh come on people, this was a really good movie! The people were real and if there was exaggerated characterizations it was to emphasize its messages. Of course it's not a car chase, bang up story but a slice of life, so poignant and moving and a literal and figurative journey that manages to show the absurdities of how people treat other people, the games people play and the silliness of our culture. It takes observant writers and actors to create characters that illustrate the absurdities of life in a way that take us along with Schmidt as he gains awareness of his deficiencies and mistakes. Sort of an everyman's odyssey of self discovery not unlike a plainer Don Quixote journey. It really was a good movie one that keeps you thinking about these people and the quietly desperate lives they lead.
