All the people in this movie were fugly
Down to earth everyday people. Most movies these days try to glamorize the person... certainly not this one.. good for it!
I like cats named nightmare. I have a "nightmare" every night!

Good point - there's not one conventionally attractive person in this film. Jeannie would be the closest, and she is just average by ordinary standards.
shareJudging by where the film takes place, their age group and them portraying just average americans who live in the midwest, their looks are pretty accurate.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum. - They Live
Hope Davis is actually fetching but they made her look average and unattractive on purpose.
For every lie I unlearn I learn something new - Ani Difranco
id seen hope davis in other films...I just don't find her and her weird nose appealing. all the makeup in the world cant change that. now granted, I'm talking about her as an older women. I saw some pics of her when she was younger, like in home alone when she had a very bit part, and yeah she was actually pretty, but most people are when they are younger. she didn't age well.
shareIt's about ordinary American heartland people. No glitz or glamour. That's why the movie works. It's brilliant.
shareThat's one of the things I loved about it! In a way, all of the ordinary people become characters in their own right. Like the Dairy Queen lady whose eyes look in two different directions LOL. I also enjoyed the fact that this movie took place in Nebraska. It's something different, which is refreshing.
shareI recently met a young lady who has a bicycle "pedal-cab" service (like a rickshaw) who's eyes aren't aligned straight. In some ways I thought she was more attractive for it. Very fit, an independent entrepreneur, I really admired her spirit.
