Bobby Ray
If Melanie was the only one who knew he was gay, why did she ask him if he had a lady when they first met on the road?
On a side note, how CUTE is he??

She didn't know for sure that he was gay, her time outside of the south in new York have her a better sense for these things so she figured it out shortly after being around him in Alabama :)
I think she was keeping up the illusion that he was straight.... She prob knew for a while but since its not her place to say anything, she didn't until it just came out by accident.
shareWatch the scene again. She asks if he has a lady friend and mentions one he was dating when she left...then after he talks, she kind of laughs and mentions it clears up some questions. This tells you she assumed as much a few times, but never knew for sure.

When Melanie says it clears up some questions, I took it that Bobby Ray's ex-girlfriend now being a womens' softball coach cleared up some questions about the girlfriend, not about Bobby Ray (do people in America REALLY use both Christian names if a person has two Christian names??) - seems a bit "Walton-ish" to me ie Jim Bob, Mary Ellen etc.
shareThis happens more often in the south. Where I live most people just go by one name. When I was in Louisiana, though I met a lot of people who went by both first and middle names.
This is my signature.
This is where we differ - I feel it was meant to be a remark that Melanie was confirming she figured out Bobby Ray's secret, especially with his smile right afterwards.
And it depends on the person. Some people do, some people don't.

also he mentions some stuff that he read about her fashion line in magazines and such and for a straight southern guy, that never happens. it must have set off her gay-dar.
shareI still am pretty attracted to Bobby Ray every time I watch even though I already know he's gay.
Wildcattin'...Wildcattin'. Pow! I'm gonna go.
