As usual Hollywood writes the American protagonists as people who can roll into any country they please like they run the show with insufferable arrogance and do whatever they like, and better than those silly foreigners too. It's a narrative that seem to play out a lot in American cinema, especially when Brits are involved. It seems to stem from the prestigious military history that Americans have convinced themselves they have.

Not just at the end but after the whole conflict began to turn in favour of the allies. US direct involvement in the war served to shorten the war and they only finally got involved after being forced into it by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour.

If not for the Americans millions more would've died in the Pacific theater. It most certainly was not "just" an American victory it took America, GB, Russia, etc... to finally gain victory over the AOE, but don't short change what America did. The war was (for all practical purposes) over when Japan fell and Japan fell because of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

How was this shown in the film?
The film quite clearly shows a Brit, Quinn, saving the world by killing the male dragon. The only American involved was his love interest, Alex.
People are taking this joke in the film way too seriously.
What's the saying "none speak with more authority and conviction than those completely ignorant of the facts." Anyone with knowledge of history knows the entry of the US into the war shortened it by many years. Do you really see Britain and the free French launching an invasion on D-Day by themselves? They would have been thrown back into the sea like they were at Dunkirk. Someone mentioned the Soviets winning the war. They may have been able to eventually but why would they stop at the English channel? So without the US entry the English would be speaking either German or Russian.
The English hate Americans because we tweaked their king's nose, whipped their ass in two wars and save their ass in WWII.

Oh, yeah. The 'brilliant' Englishmen with the nerve to speak lowly of Americans, the same ones who had no plan in place to ever beat the dragons. They were probably a month away (being generous) from starving to death, waiting on a crop to harvest, that the dragons knew exactly when to burn it to dust at just the right time.
They were doing NOTHING to combat the dragons, but instead sat in their castle, praying and waiting to die. It took the Americans showing up to save their butts.
