While I loved this movie, I was curious....

....why do none of these films tell the story of a female survivor?

I'm honestly curious.

Some things always made me wonder, that probably seem trivial to many.
Women have 'different' issues, such as menstrual periods. How did they deal with them in the worst camps?

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

True, the female survivors are under-represented even though there's a plethora of memoirs. "In Darkness" has female characters that touched upon some issues. Some older Polish movies are about women: "The Last Stage"(Ostatni Etap) by Auschwitz survivor turned movie director, Wanda Jakubowska. Of course, it's tainted with commie propaganda but you can expect that of any movie made during stalinism.
Much more compelling is the unfinished movie by Aleksander Munk "The Passenger"
(Pasazerka),based on a story by Zofia Posmysz, also an Auschwitz survivor.

As for periods, women stopped having them virtually immediately upon arrival due to malnutrition. When some achieved better positions in the camp hierarchy and their living standard improved normal physiology took its course.
