Ralph

For him to go from Schindler's List, Red Dragon, and The English Patient to....this....I felt bad for him that he had to stoop to this level. It was a ridiculous role for him. I did like the Dolce coat though.

oh....please....
i don't think it was a ridiculous role for him .... i have seen the Red Dragon, and i think that role was totally not appropiate to him. he likes a gentlement, i do think his role in this film is better than in Red Dragon.

Maybe he felt sorry for himself, too....all the way to the bank.

Awww, don't be so hard to Ralph! ;)
I like him. I think he's an awesome actor. :)
I've seen him in Red Dragon and Spider and The Avengers.
(I have the Avengers dvd and Red Dragon dvd) I think he's great, no matter what role he gets (although Ralph playing the second fiddle, in my eyes, is unfair.) I mean, J-Lo is a singer, not an actress.
Anyway, I'll always hang on to Ralph and support him no matter what weird role he gets. He can play them all. *clings to him like an obsessed fan*

His turn in Red Dragon was one of the single greatest performances in film history.

reply

I would have to agree with you. He was superb in Red Dragon.

reply

I think to describe J-Lo as either a singer or an actress is a complete over statement. She is neither.... she lives in a limbo of someone who wants to be good at both but fails miserably and instead get by on being so-so at both. Sorry, but thats how I feel.

I totally agree. Not only is he insanely good-looking, but he's an excellent actor. The movie was cute, but I think the role was too "cute" for him.

reply

The script of Maid in Manhattan was cut dramatically after he signed on. They cut out a huge chunk of his story and made it a vehicle for J-Lo grrrrr

His role in Schindler's List is absolutely chilling. The next time he was half as scary was in Red Dragon...
I don't think he did the movie because it offered any intellectual stimulation or challenge (hah), it must have been a 'sound business decision'.

Just like Cusack did with the trainwreck ConAir.

No offense to anybody who liked ConAir.

Here's the thing...Ralph had just finished playing two really emotionally challenging characters in Red Dragon and Spider. So, he decided to give himself a break and play something a little less intense. I think it was an ingenious move on his part for three reasons.
1.)It gave him the opportunity to show that he can play a light and breezy fellow just as well as the next guy.
2.) It was a very high profile movie, and given the fact that his name hasn't been in the limelight for a while, this was good exposure.
3.) I'm sure he was paid well, and this afforded him the luxury of doing a couple of plays, which is what he really loves to do, but it doesn't pay nearly as well.

Still, I don't understand how Ralph could be in such a idiotic movie. Is he in a life crisis or something? He use to be one of the oscar-nominated actors.

reply

If you haven't seen him in Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights (1990) please do so...he is phenomenal in that.

Him and Daniel Day Lewis were always my two favorite actors...then Ralph stars in this joke of a movie. Daniel wouldn't be caught dead in a role like that. What I still dont understand is...what was the plot? so completely stupid....thank God I saw this on cable and didn't pay $8.50 to see it in the theatre.

The movie was cute but could have been better. I am a HUGE Ralph Fiennes fan, but I failed to see alot of chemistry between Ralph and J Lo. First of all, the character of Jerry (Chris's assistant, PI person whatever) was very irritating. He meddles too much into Chris's personal life.

Second, Marisa gives Chris alot of attitude. Most men would not give a bitchy woman like that the time of day, especially after she had lied.

Also Ralph needs work on his American accent. He just does not talk like an American convincingly in any movie I see him in as an American.

I am big fan of Ralph's as well. But I think there are some films you do for the money and then there are some films you do for the "art". Guess the reason Ralph did this one??? He has to do the occasional "box-office" type film too just so that he can do the independent films ...with no or little salary. I think he got 4 million for this. He has deferred his salary on several films ...in other words got virtually nothing just to get them made like "Spider" and "Sunshine".
