Are we supposed to feel bad for Marisa?

I just watched this for the 2nd time--the first time I saw it in the theater and ended up running out with the flu half-way through! So I thought I'd see what I missed.

As I watched this, I got increasingly more irritated by JLo's character Marisa. She was completely unprofessional by trying on a guest's clothing--whether the guest was planning to return them or not--and then, just leaving work to go hang out with some guy and his dog. The rest of the movie she's lying, hiding from people, and still thinking she'll be promoted. Granted, when she's found out, she doesn't throw a pity party or blame anyone, but the tone of the movie, the music, the way the butler quits as well, it made me feel like I was supposed to feel bad for her. But I just didn't.

I wish Chris hadn't taken her back at the end. Of course if he hadn't it would've been spinned that he didn't because she was a maid, and not the fact that their whole "relationship" was a lie. I like rom-coms, I'm the biggest fan of the genre, but I just couldn't empathize with Marisa at all. How could she expect to do all that she did without consequences? I'm surprised that she got another job at another hotel, you wouldn't think a hotel would want that liability.
