Do you find J-Lo convincing as a maid?

Do you find J-Lo convincing as a maid especially when so much has been said, written, published, and televised about how a rich, difficult and demanding diva she is?

Yes her part wasn't that difficult and even though many people say Ralph Fiennes was horrible actually I pictured him perfectly well as a politician.
That role fits him very well, he latter played another politician in the constant Gardner

It would have been better if they let him keep his true nationality, like he came to the United States for a few meetings with American politicians or something.
He looks very handsome in this film

" . . . convincing as a maid?"

Of course not

Her character was supposed to be a hotel maid, but even the director or the script couldn't make Jennifer make a bed or do any other menial work.

The only "maid" thing that Jennifer consented to do did was fluff the pillows while delivering her lines. They had to show a second maid with her in the room who actually did the work.

When have you ever seen two maids doing a hotel room?

Even when Jennifer was playing the lead in a film, she absolutely refused to do anything that might have been characterized as 'maid work.'

What a pompous and pretentious ass!

This is a movie! I thought she did a good job of the maid. And fluffing the pillows is making a bed. And I have stayed in hotels where two maids make beds. Honestly, it is make believe! Romantic comedy, chick flick!

Are you serious? I mean, it wouldn't surprise me considering what a diva she is. But for God's sake, you're playing the role of a maid and you don't even want to act like it?

reply

I think she was very good in the role, and just fine at portraying a maid within the remits of the story. What more do you expect? Scenes depicting the full practices of a maid in a hotel?! Whilst the media's notion of Lopez being a "diva" is very contradictory to what numerous co-stars and directors have said about her on-set regarding her professionalism, work-ethic and understanding of the characters she plays. But that's typical of the media -- still, if you're major issue with a movie of this type is pedantic enough to question a minute detail, let's berate Casablanca because we don't see Rick doing enough paperwork as the owner of a bar. Or Dirty Harry because Eastwood isn't seen depicting the rigours of filing reports.

I worked as a housekeeper and sometimes if we finished our rooms early we would help out everyone else so occasionally there would be two or three of us finishing up rooms.

Who are you trying to kid? You've obviously got it in for her and (deliberately)misrepresented her character completely. It was her doing all the work when the 2 maids were in the room and her buddy doing all the talking. JLo's character even tells her at one stage to stop talking and do some work. Besides this there are a number of other scenes where you see her doing plenty of maid's work.

You said it yourself. Stupidity (and dishonesty)definitely did get you into this mess.šŸ

Not really, no.
She was too 'polished'. I'm not saying maids have to look like crap, don't misunderstand me. I used to clean condos, so I know.
But she still wasn't convincing in this role. She was only slightly more convincing as a ' waitress turned housewife turned ninja' in "Enough".

I think she was fine. Why did she need to make a bed in this movie? This movie wasn't about her doing actual housework.

Right, although the movie is called MAID in Manhattan.

The fact is, it flat-out lies about the hard and dirty work that many maids must do. And I'm guessing: it's because J-Lo didn't want to be depicted scrubbing a toilet or putting a new liner in a trash can or getting down on her hands and knees to make sure there was nothing she'd missed under the bed. But those are the very things her character supposedly did, day in and day out, in order to support her son and stay off welfare; it's the sort of work that's considered something of a sacrifice. It was something the character wanted to escape. And yet we never see it.

So no, she was not a convincing maid.

I don't find her convincing at anything.

I don't find her that convincing as an actress at all.
