Maybe I'm Just sick but this is one of my favourite black comedies!

Alot of homages, its like the Texas Chainsaw massacre meets the Hills Have Eyes & big on pop culture references in props, dialogue, music + the character names from Marx Brothers movies (and a character named Jerry Goldsmith); and appearances by the legendary Michael J Pollard in an early scene and Karen Black in fine form.

The villains are not humourless. Bill Moseley plays a great sicko. Sid Haig funny (remember him from 60's TV and 70's exploitation films - even an episode of Get Smart).
The "I remember you" scene where the cop is executed, the scene when Rufus T Firefly wear's the skinned face of one of the girls father in to her and the run rabbit run scene all crack me up.

You're dead, son. Get yourself buried!

I loved it until the Dr Satan segment. The chase scene was disappointing.

I agree. They should've done without Dr. Satan. That was just a bit too much.

I disagree, the Dr. Satan stuff made it the cult horror classic that it is.

There's nothing wrong with liking a black comedy, but house was not the gorefest it could've been

This is one of my favorite movies of any genre. As you said I love the villains and think they have huge larger than life personalities. They are a lot more interesting than a faceless killing machine in a mask. I consider the Firefly family to be one of the best families in horror.
