Two Questions
Did the one armed home run really happen? Just wondering.........
Probably easier to answer: most of the year Mantle was in center Maris was in right, who was in left?

Not sure about the one armed homerun but Yogi Berra played left for half the year.

Hector Lopez, Bob Cerv and John Blanchard would have been the other left fielders.
Left field at Yankee Stadium was very spacious. Lots of other teams flopped their regular left and right fielders when playing in the Bronx. It was less important to have the better arm in right.
Actually, they toned it down a bit. According to the special feature on my DVD, he managed to hit 2 hr's that day.
shareI would say it was true...Billy Crystal was very much a stickler for keeping things accurate...down to the frosted batting helmets.
"it was a cool name, until that no talent ass clown won a grammy"
One inaccuracy was that Bob Cerv played on the Los Angeles Angels until he was traded back to the Yankees on May 8. But overall, this movie was quite well done and enjoyable.
sharei've heard that story before, not that that makes it true. i don't think billy crystal would embelish that.
shareI thought I'd try to find out more about this question and here's a link that confirms what was stated on the special feature of my 61* dvd. There's even the original radio broadcasts of Mantles 2 homers that you can listen to.
