The resemblance's are unreal

Barry Pepper and Thomas Jane both played the parts of Maris and Mantle very well but the thing that stuck out the most was how much each actor both looks like the real life player. Especially Pepper.

Agreed. I visited this board years ago and some joker was going on about Pepper spoiled the movie for him because he looked nothing like Maris. WTF?

Pretty remarkable resemblance.

reply

Agreed. It can hurt a movie when the resemblance just isn't there, but that wasn't the case here. Perfect casting but in the end the actors had to pull off the roles which they did well.

Thing is, ideally you'd want to get both the resemblance and guys who could play, or who at least could look like real players. That's almost impossible, honestly. I am absolutely astounded at what Crystal was able to do in this film. It all started with being totally in love with the game and being unwilling to put something up on the screen that looked fake.
