Killing Me Softly/The Book

Saw bits and pieces of the movie on tv. However, the book was excellent, mesmerizing though I can see why it'd be difficult to translate into a movie. I'm American but would've much preferred a Brit in the lead female role.

wait they played this movie on tv?!?!????? i'm an irish canadian (only reason i put that in is b/c ohkay43 did) and i think you're wrong a brit woundn't have worked well in this role b/c they said that she was american, though it's not a bad idea.

But they could just as easily have said the character was British, especially as the character was British in the book. But then there is very little about the book that wasn't changed for the film! I suspect the role was changed to suit Heather Graham.

Makes me wonder why the kept the book connection when so much was different.

They should have stuck with the book for the most part even if they still chose to make the Alice character an American they could have still stuck closer to the original story line. The incest part was just sick. The book was absolutely riveting. I read it in one night. The movie version had characters not every well fleshed out and the whole story was such a let down. The book was much, much better.

Yes, I'm thinking its odd as well...I just read the book two days ago, and was thrilled to see it airing on tv next sunday! But these new details stun me. Why on earth would One chose to make such changes to a perfectly good plot?...
Adam had two sisters, Alice saw them in the old photos she found in his father's shed, but we never heard about them apart from that notice. And Deborah was his climbing mate and expedition medic, who also lived in Adam's flat when Alice returned to him after leaving Jake.
It's all very strange. Like the director somehow decided to shake up a wholesome storyline. Much like (otherwise great) Bille August did to The House of The Spirits...
