I've noticed that obsessive CCS fans tend to bag on the dub hackjob pronunciations of Japanese names. (Eg "Sa-KOO-ra") Honestly I don't see what the big deal is, the Japanese mispronounce English words all the bloody time and no one bags on them. It's all very hypocritical.
shareMy biggest problem isn't that the name is pronounced wrong, it's that they changed almost everybodies names. Tomoya became Madison, Rika became Rita, Yukito became Julian, Fujitaka became Aidan. I casn handle mispronunciations easier then MADISON for the love of it all.

if they kept the japanese names,
do you think it'd attract the viewers more to the characters?
take a movie for instance.
is the script isn't from a book,
they're more likely to name the character something simple. [ex. Katie]
but, they might also use a name a little complex, but not so strange that people won't like it. [a good example is from Raising Helen, they had a static character in the movie named Tinka, who was mentionned about 6 times, maybe.]
Sometimes, they pick names that suit the way the mouth flows.
or sometimes they just pick random names, or the name of the daughter/son of someone who is staff.

Personally I love names from other countries. I am an avid D&Der and online gamer so I have several name sites book marked and love learning the meanings of different names. I do, however see your point. The English version is aimed more for children where the book and Japanese version is more for teens. I just really, really hate the name Madison.
