Towards the end of that horrid Desert Palace business (Disc 3,after Cid rescues the party), I've lit the candles by the two statues of the demon and the angel on the wall and the stairs appear. According to a guide on GameFAQs, once you go up the stairs, a boss fight will begin. However, when I go up, nothing happens. And now I can't progress any further. If I have to start all over, I WILL be pissed.
shareRead multiple guides. I don't recall having to fight a boss in that area. And that place is very confusing, and you will be pissed regardless.

You're not supposed to light all the candles. Yeah, I was stuck on that for years too, so I was just training my party like hell.
