If I end up playing 40 hours just to beat a damn game, I better get a happy ending! Zidane gets the girl, Steiner and Beatrix hook up, everyone lives happily ever after.
I get what they were trying to do with FFX but the ending just frigging depressed me so much.
"You want it to be one way... but it's the other way."
I know what you mean. Final fantasy sure is one of the top games of the old Playstation one system. A crown jewel of that generations video games. the ending sure was great, but I have to say I do like the ending in FFX a little more. I like that fact that they could built it to another game, Final fantasy X-2 witch was great!
If final fantasy 7 didn't have any spinoffs or advent children it could've had one of the darkest endings in the series ie everyone but red xiii on the planet was wiped out by holy because they were the threat to the planet, that should've stayed no matter how much i like 7 it would've fit if it ended that wayn, can't always have happy endings in next game, just like 10 should've stayed one game with tidus slipping away into death instead of coming back because people weren't happy, each ff meant to only be one game a sequel should've never happened.
I haven't completed 9 yet but saw some clips of it and yeah it's a bit depressing but that's what square was really good at for some final fantasies.
yeah the FF7 ending must have been very misleading to gamers when it first came out since a) it implies that the planet did get destroyed and b) it implies that the events of the game was Aerith having a vision of the whole thing and she's still going through with it
i didn't see the bit at the end of the FF8 credits so i always assumed Squall died
i think FF9's ending is just so perfectly done, the set up and everything. i remember being 9 when it first came out and yelling at the screen for people to get out of the way so Garnet could get through. plus her hair grew back. and it wasn't a complete happy ending since it is implied that Vivi stopped and we see Freya having doubts about her relationship
the thing with FFX-2 is that you can still choose your own ending. if you think Tidus is better off gone then you don't have to go to the trouble of getting the good ending. if you don't do those tasks there is a small cutscene that can be seen after you beat Vegnagun which closes the Tidus/Yuna story off fine without resurrecting him. but if you want Tidus to come back you can get the Good and Perfect endings. hell even the pessimists get an ending for themselves, where Vegnagun destroys Spira
There's something about flying a kite at night that's so unwholesome
